Three Groups of Attorneys Gain Award, But No Multiplier Awarded.
Salvador Hernandez reports, in a March 7, 2012 article in The Orange County Register, that U.S. District Judge Audrey Collins (C.D. Cal.) awarded more than $3.2 million in attorney’s fees and expenses to three groups of attorneys who successfully sued Orange County to make its jail more accessible to the disabled. This award came after 10 years of litigation, including a Ninth Circuit appeal that reversed some findings in the County’s favor. The district judge, though, did not award a multiplier, finding that the delay in payment and risk of loss associated with the case were rewarded through the higher hourly rates she allowed the requesting attorneys.
