Mattel Will Post Big Bond, But Not What MGA Wants.

     In this continuing saga where MGA won substantial compensatory/punitive damages and attorney’s fees/costs against Mattel, the current issue centers on the appellate undertaking to be posted by Mattel while it appeals to the Ninth Circuit. As recently reported by Amanda Bronstad in The National Law Journal on August 15, 2011, Mattel has offered to pay a $315 million bond pending appeal, but MGA wants more like $464.83 million. Yowee!

Howrey’s D.C. Furniture is on the Block; Collection Attorneys Want to be Hired at $500/Hour.

     Sara Randazzo, in an August 15, 2011 post at americanlawyer.com, reports that Howrey will be having furniture shoppers bidding for bargains as its furniture and equipment is being auctioned off as part of the law firm’s bankruptcy. Also, Howrey’s bankruptcy estate wants to hire some collection attorneys at $500 per hour, motions pending before the bankruptcy judge for determination.

Steve Pappas HIt With $700,000 Fee Award.

     An August 17, 2011 post on The Santa Maria Times informs us that Steve Pappas, the loser of a Santa Barbara County supervisor race by 806 votes, has been ordered to pay about $700,000 in fees to victor Doreen Farr in a recent court ruling.
