Madoff.
As reported by Martha Neil in an April 19, 2011 post on the ABA Journal website, Bernie Madoff’s bankruptcy
trustee recently has submitted new numbers in the New York bankruptcy court matter for payment of trustee’s law firm bills. He seeks payment of a $43.2 million bill, with the trustee saying he has already recovered $7.6 billion while racking up $175.5 million in attorney’s fees since Mr. Madoff’s 2008 arrest. Holly cow, but good for him we guess!
Civil Rights Fee Shifting.
Okay, for you civil rights purists, we commend for reading Mr. Kim Karelis’ article “What Fees Can Public Entities Recover From Successful Litigation,” available for reading at publicceo.com as well as at Ropers, Majeski, Kohn & Bentley’s website (because, after all, he is a partner in the Los Angeles office of Ropers). He has a good discussion of recent civil rights decisions in this area as well as a pending U.S. Supreme Court case (Fox) recently argued and awaiting a decision.
