The Orange County Register Obtains Final Numbers from City of Irvine.
We have reported in past posts—see our July 1 and August 22, 2009 posts–about Great Park board members Christina Shea and Steven Choi’s lawsuit to obtain documents about the search for a Great Park CEO.
The final attorney’s fees tab is in! Sean Emery, in an article entitled “The cost of secrecy,” published in the September 23, 2009 The Orange County Register, reports that the City of Irvine spent $126,472 defending the lawsuit and then paid an additional $75,000 to the attorneys for Ms. Shea and Mr. Choi. You can do the math—over $200,000 for this exercise in secrecy that drew a fairly strident opinion from the Santa Ana Court of Appeal in reversing a lower court who found the Board members did not prevail in their lawsuit.
