In The News: Bloomberg’s Attorney Workload and Hourly Survey For First Half Of 2023 Has Some Interesting Findings For Law Professionals

Burn-Out Felt By Almost Half Of Survey Respondents.

            Based on a survey of law professionals (78% from law firms), Bloomberg has issued its Attorney Workload and Hourly Survey for the 1st and 2nd Quarters of 2023.  Here is a summary of some findings which we found interesting:

      • The average hours worked were 48 per week, versus 37 average hours billed.
      • 47% of respondents were satisfied with their jobs, 38% were neutral, and 15% were unsatisfied.
      • Lawyers felt burnt out 48% of the time.
      • Disrupted sleep and anxiety were the two largest negative repercussions associated with lawyers’ jobs.
      • 72% of respondents used exercise as self-care protection during off time.
      • With respect to main tasks completed by lawyers, they broke down this way: litigators—72% did case analysis; transactional attorneys—46% engaged in direct client communications; and regulatory and compliance attorneys—93% performed regulatory compliance.
