On the California Supreme Court website under “Judicial Council,” one can find the Judicial Council of California’s court statistics report for 2015-16 through 2024-25, which has a wealth of information. One may consult it if you want to discover time for disposition of judicial cases (by some specified categories) per the CA Supreme Court, each CA Court of Appeal, and Superior Court by county as well as other data which clients may want to have some intelligence on. In this post, we explore some selected categories that were interesting to us.
- California Supreme Court petition for review grant rates for the 2015-16 through 2024-2025 timeframe: for all cases, including outright grants/grants and hold/ grants and transferred–13%; however, that reduced to 8%, separately, for civil appeals and civil writs.
- California Court of Appeal (DCA) opinion publication rates for 2024-2025: with respect to civil appeals,13% on a statewide basis, with a high of 20% for the Third District and a low of 7% for the Sixth District.
- DCA civil appeal dispositions for 2024-2025: 69% resulted in full affirmances; 9% in affirmances with modification(s); 18% reversals; and 5% dismissals.
- Superior Court dispositions before trial on a statewide basis for 2024-2025: for civil unlimited cases, 83%; for civil limited cases, 97%; and for unlawful detainer cases, 91%.
