Internet Video of Encounter Got A Lot of Exposure.
According to a December 4, 2010 post by John Ellis on the website of The Fresno Bee, the City of Fresno has agreed to pay $75,000 to Glen Beaty, a homeless man, in a federal civil rights lawsuit predicated on a punching by a police officer during an arrest of Mr. Beaty. Mr. Beaty will receive $47,000 of the settlement (through a public guardian), with the remainder going to pay attorney’s fees and costs. The settlement is subject to federal court approval at a January 10, 2011 scheduled hearing.
An outsider actually videotaped the police arrest of Mr. Beaty, with the videotape gaining substantial exposure on the Internet and in news reports.
