Lions, and Tigers, and Bears — Oh My!
Well, this one will get all of us engrossed, or should.
Las Vegas entertainers Siegfried (Fischbacher) and Roy (Horn) have been awarded $37,415 in attorney’s fees and court costs when U.S. District Judge Roger Hunt determined that a sexual harassment suit brought against them was frivolous in nature.
Plaintiff Oliver Preiss had sued Siegfried and Roy, and a related company of Roy, for sexual overtures that he claimed led to his firing by Roy and his company. The defense claimed, among other things, that plaintiff earlier had admitted he quit, rather than being fired. Siegfried and Roy had at first sought to recoup $109,000 in fees/court costs after dismissal of the federal suit on March 17, 2011, but reduced the claim down to $37,415. (Apparently, certain supplemental state law claims were dismissed by the federal judge without prejudice, such that plaintiff has re-filed them in Clark County Superior Court in Las Vegas.)
More on this saga can be found at Steve Green’s September 22, 2011 post on the Las Vegas Sun’s website.
As Dorothy of Wizard of Oz fame put it well, “Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my!”
Or, to borrow Siegried and Roy’s magic word, “SARMOTI. Siegried and Roy, Masters of the Impossible!”
