In The News . . . . Newspaper Copyright Infringer Filer Righthaven, LLC Hit With Approximate $120,000 Fee Award in Case Against Thomas DiBiase

Rough Weather:  No Safe Haven for Righthaven in Legal Shit Storms.

In our September 30, 2011 post, we talked about Righthaven, LLC of Las Vegas, which is a newspaper copyright infringer filer that files suits against persons for using stories or photographs published in certain papers.

Well, it was recently ordered to pay $119,488 in attorney’s fees and costs in its failed lawsuit against former federal prosecutor Thomas DiBiase. The fees were awarded under the federal Copyright Act.

Earlier, Righthaven was hit with a $34,045 fee award, but the current one was much, much larger–even though Righthaven has said it is having problems bonding or coming to terms with the much smaller previous award.

For more on Righthaven and this award, see Steve Green’s October 26, 2011 post on the Las Vegas Sun.
