In The News . . . . Three Surveys Results On 2012 First Year Attorney Salaries, Average Partner/Corporate Attorney Compensation, And Average Lawyer Salaries From Around The Globe

 

NALP Survey Results on First Year Lawyer Compensation.

     As reported by Debra Cassens Weiss in a September 20, 2012 post in the on-line version of the American Bar Association Journal, NALP (the Association for Legal Career Professionals) has published survey results of 570 U.S. law firms about the average compensation for first year attorneys for 2012. Here is what it shows: for firms with over 700 lawyers, only 46% of first years received $160,000 paychecks, a decline from 54% in 2011, 58% in 2010, and 65% in 2009. The median salary for first years in 700-plus lawyer firms is $145,000, matching the 2007 median. For firms with 2-25 lawyers, the median first year compensation was $70,750. Overall, the median salary at firms of all sizes was $125,000 this year, up from $115,00 last year.

Major, Lindsey & Africa/ALM Legal Intelligence Survey Results on Average Partner/Corporate Attorney Compensation.

     Ms. Weiss, in her September 19, 2012 post at the ABA Journal, shared the results of a spring 2012 survey sent by Major, Lindsey & Africa/ALM Legal Intelligence to 74,000 law firm partners in Am Law 200, NLJ 350, and Global 100 size firms across the U.S. with respect to average partner/corporate attorney compensation this year. Here are the results: average compensation is $896,000 for equity partners and $335,000 for nonequity partners; $734,000 for male partners and $497,000 for female partners; $847,000 for corporate lawyers and $634,000 for litigators.
