Virginia Lawyer Fee Sanction Payment.

     A Virginia attorney, facing ethics violations, paid his $544,000 share of a $722,000 legal fee award for advice relating to deactivation of Facebook information and to electronic discovery production in a personal injury case, even though his client did eventually prevail after a jury trial.

Ferrari Left Abandoned So Attorney Could Get to Ottawa Court Hearing.

     A Toronto attorney left his $192,000 Ferrari stranded in a flood underpass in order to get to court on time in Ottawa. The Ferrari did sustain water damage from the incident.

$69,000 Cab Reimbursement Expense.

     An ex-Sidley Austin partner, in an answer to an ethics complaint, admitted that a $69,000 cab-fare reimbursement claim was fabricated. Really?

McGeorge Enrollment Down, Mandating Layoffs.

     University of Pacific’s McGeorge School of Law’s student enrollment count has gone down about 40% (from 1,036 in fall 2010 to an anticipated 600 students soon), which has resulted in nine layoffs. We have posted on news reports in the past indicating that U.S. law schools may be undergoing a lot of changes as a result of reduced enrollments.
