$227 Million Is Fee Award to About 30 Firms.
It is now official. U.S. District Judge James V. Selna (C.D. Cal.) has approved a $1.6 billion settlement in the Toyota unintended acceleration class action case, calling it “extraordinary” given the cash payments to Toya customers who sold or turned in leased vehicles between September 2009 and December 2010. The district court also approved $227 million in attorney’s fees and expenses to about 30 law firms. So far, about 500,000 Toyota customers have put in claims with an impending cut-off deadline of July 29, 2013.
